Austin school employees want a raise. Yes, they are getting a raise already, but they want a bigger one. Because, as we all know, Austin's coffers are overflowing with gold coins, and besides, the schools are all performing very, very well.
If you are an Austin school employee and take offense at my remarks, I offer the following and invite you to pucker up: (__|__)
Basically what we have here is a student who would've been valedictorian of her high school were it not were the fact that she couldn't pass the graduation exam after 5 tries. It is also worth noting that she made an 11 on her ACT. Oddly enough, she still thinks she can go to college and do well. This might well be the case. Since she's never been in a situation where she was expected to learn stuff and be tested on it, there's really no way of knowing how she might fare in such a situation.
This story illustrates two points: 1. Testing is good. 2. The current state of public education is bad.
But this tale wouldn't be complete without the obligatory quip from the principal (professional educator) of this school: ...(Principal Harvey) Cyrus said Green's experience does not suggest the school is doing anything wrong.
