Dumb Broads Line Up At Trough

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/2642185

At least 1.5 million women moved a step closer to being compensated for alleged sex discrimination on the job in the wake of a landmark legal ruling against Wal-Mart Stores.

Or, "the climate is right for an attack on Wal-Mart's tempting deep pockets, so "victims" have been recruited to attempt to lighten said pockets."

At issue is whether Wal-Mart systematically discriminated against women in pay and promotions. The case covers virtually all the women who have worked for the world's largest private employer over the past five years.

So even some probable non-idiot women are being included in this.

Whether or not Wal-Mart actually discriminated against women is all but irrelevant. If Wal-Mart was really discriminating against women, it would follow that there would be very few female employees at Wal-Mart at all levels, and that the women that remain there do so because of either lack of skills or lack of other options, i.e., working at Wal-Mart is the best they can do or want to do. But enough of that. On to the poster child:

Does this sound like a candidate for promotions and/or raises?

Betty Dukes, one of the women spearheading the suit, said she was paid $8.44 per hour during her first nine years working at a variety of positions at Wal-Mart's store in Pittsburg, Calif., while several men holding similar jobs but less seniority earned $9 per hour.

This woman worked for NINE years for $8.44/hour in an environment which she believed to be discriminatory. This tells me:
1. she's too damn stupid to get a job anywhere else
2. she's too damn lazy to get a job anywhere else
3. she lacked the initiative to do anything to improve her situation at Wal-Mart
4. working at Wal-Mart for $8.44/hour was preferable to her other options
5. she's fortunate to have had the opportunity to be employed at Wal-Mart, and was probably overpaid at $8.44/hour

I really don't like this lawsuit at all. The plaintiffs seem intent on proving that women are, as a population, stupid and inferior, and further, that their stupidity and inferiority make them deserving of handouts.

And It Begins...

http://www.townhall.com/columnists/mikeadams/ma20040621.shtml

This may be the last we hear of this. Or things may get interesting. Too soon to tell.

Crappy Shoes
I'm wearing some white slides that are embellished with white leather flowers. These shoes suck. They have padded suede footbeds, which I've never really been a fan of, but I hear they're comfortable, so I bought these shoes because:
(a) I didn't own any white shoes
(b) I was deluded into thinking (a) was somehow a problem
(c) I liked the flowers
(d) they were on sale
(e) I thought they'd be comfortable and practical

These shoes certainly appear to be comfortable. And if you intend to slip them on and then stand perfectly still, they are indeed quite comfortable. The heel height is negligible, and the heel width is substantial. Or would appear. At the very end of this otherwise chunky heel, the shape takes a sudden turn and tapers into a round little point. This serves no aesthetic purpose, as the heel is by no means dainty. So what you have is the lack of balance and stability you'd expect from a delicate little heel, coupled with the appearance of a large chunky heel. This is the worst of both heel types, and there's nothing I hate more than things that combine the worst characteristics of things. But that's just the heel. The suede footbed needs no further elaboration, as the inherent crapulence of such is well-known. But there's more. The upper portion of the shoe is poorly thought out as well. The width is fine, but the "slide" (a one-piece band about two inches thick) is poorly placed. It sits too far back from the toes and too close to the ankle. This means that the shoe does not stay on very well and requires continuous adjustment. This is also a less attractive placement. So I'm going to be suffering in these shoes all day and will likely have blisters to show for it. This might be tolerable if these shoes were really, really cute with towering high heels, but this is totally unacceptable in such dowdy, comfortable-looking footwear. Today will be these shoes' last day in my active collection. Upon arrival at home they will be banished. My much more comfortable and practical strappy high-heeled sandals will take their place. From this experience, I will take away the following lesson: Buy shoes based on appearance only, for an attractive shoe is a comfortable shoe, and there is nothing whatsoever to be gained in purchasing unattractive footwear.
